Emily K. is in 4th grade in Ann Arbor, MI. She writes:

I think that Tell Me A Story is a great CD. What I like most about it is that each story is different in some way. For instance, Sense of Theft is about a girl who is kind and generous and is accused of stealing the smells of the bakery. While The Boatmans Howling Daughter is about a loud and outgoing girl who fights pirates. Another thing I like about Tell Me A Story is the music. I think that it sets the scene for the next story. I also like that for each character the narrator uses a different voice. All in all I think Tell Me A Story is a great folk tale CD and everyone should listen to it.

Amy H, from Texas and now living in Argentina writes:

At last count, my son had listened to the CD about 7 times (in 2 days!) Each time he goes to the play room, he hits Power & Play to listen to the stories again. Even with his favorite friend at his house playing today, he wanted to listen to Tell Me A Story. I had to sneak over to turn it off a couple of times just to be polite. It is a wonderful collection of stories that are enjoyable for children & adults which is especially important for the parents since their children will be requesting to listen to it again & again!

The reviewers at the kids' review site, FlamingNet.com (www.flamingnet.com) had this to say:

From Flamingnet Student Reviewers: GS & PS

The audio CD we reviewed was Tell Me a Story: Timeless Folktales from Around the World, written by Amy Friedman. Our favorite story in this collection was "Searching for Fear," about a young raccoon in search of fear. Along the way, young Gregory finds many obstacles that would be frightening to others but not to him. Gregory finally finds fear in an unexpected place. The other stories in this collection are "A Sense of Theft," which is about a woman and her love of the aromas produced by fresh-baked pastries; "Anansi and Turtle's Feast," which is about greedy Anansi the spider and kindly and generous Turtle; "The Selkie Bride," about a fisherman who falls in love with a selkie; "Two Frogs from Japan," which is about two frogs who dream of adventuring to different parts of Japan; "The Clever Girl," which is about a magistrate who tests a girls with riddles to see how clever she is; "The Rabbit on the Moon," in which Buddha disguises himself to test the kindness of the forest animals; and "The Boatman's Howling Daughter," which is about a girl who can holler loud enough to frighten a bear. Wah-hooo!!!

We found each of these stories to be well written, with a captivating plot and setting. The performances were great, and the music, by Laura Hall, provided a colorful and lively backdrop to these wonderful stories. We enjoyed this CD very much-it kept us entertained on our long trip to school. We recommend it to everyone who loves tall tales and folktales.

Our rating (1 - 10 scale): 10

I laughed, I cried, I can't stop playing it. It's the most entertaining CD I've ever bought. It was supposed to be for my daughter but I find myself playing it for me and telling my daughter I'll buy her her own CD.
Review from a buyer on CD Baby.

As I listened to Tell Me A Story, I found myself drifting into that comfort zone from my thumbsucking years. The music, writing and performances are all five star. This is going to be my #1 stocking stuffer for friends, family and clients this year.

I appreciate these engaging tales, clearly told and enhanced by lively music. Amy Friedman weaves age-old morals within an appealing text. I give the CD high marks.
